The weekend, practically.
Seven home Saturdays and one graduation night in Sanford Stadium. Downtown Athens has only a few hotels and every one of them fills the same weekend. We book the family's rooms on one link, sort the drive from Atlanta and hold the tables downtown.
The hotels you can walk to downtown go first. After that it's the Epps Bridge side of town, then Lake Oconee or the Atlanta suburbs, which is a real drive. Atlanta is about an hour and a half on a normal day, more on a game day; we have not timed it ourselves. For a family we'd rather book one good place 40 minutes out with a driver than three rooms scattered across town.
Graduation is a Friday night in the stadium, so most families stay Thursday to Saturday. Book it this fall.
Family Weekend this year is the easy one to book. The team is away, so the town is quieter than a game weekend and the rooms are easier.

Is the Florida game in Jacksonville this year?
No. The Georgia athletics site lists it in Atlanta on Oct 31, 2026. Atlanta has far more hotel rooms than Athens, so that weekend is easier to book.
